Indeed. Clearly we all interpret everything we hear no matter what work it is. But there are some things that an interpretation should be, and what I feel in my opinion an interpretation should not be. In my opinion an interpretation is that which one is reminded of, according to one's perceptions....to say that Faster could fit into Rhinegold seems to extrapolate that Jim does sometimes put one work and interpolate it into another...but it is Jim's reasonings that place it wherever he places it. If you don't know what Jim's reasonings are, then an "interpretive displacement" is all you've got, instead of an interpretation. If you were to interpret the song Faster, and speak of what that song means to you, that in my opinion, is an interpretation.
