It was not like Steinman and Rinkoff announced the album on any label (Although naturally you would think they'd release it on Ravenous/Sony. I still don't know why that didn't happen.) Still, they were workshopping the show and changing the setlist every time. "Over The Top" became "The Dream Engine" and so on and so forth. It wasn't like "Original Sin" and "Back Into Hell" where they had the label (in that case VIRGIN) there championing them. Not to mention a deadline and everything else. To me, "The Dream Engine" seemed like a tribute concert that they started to take seriously after Meat trashed the Bat legacy. Jim wanted the world to hear his songs, as they were meant to be heard, but after "Bat" and "Original Sin", who could blame him for not wanting to go through all that, promoting a new label and a new concept completely from the top. Now with the "Bat Out Of Hell" spectacular, a) It has the big name that the public can identify and b) It's "Neverland" anyway, and Jim's been working on that project for 40 years. Sheesh. | |
