Recycling - it's good for you

Actually, in Jim's case, I tend to think it isn't. I really don't want to hear another version of Total Eclipse played on a flugelhorn with Gregorian monks intoning "Turn around" while some bint murders the song with a techno beat in the background. Recycling sucks. However, there ARE songs in Jim's canon that could do with a new lick of paint and greater recognition, and in the absence of something new from the man himself, it's something to think about. So - and I'm sure this has been done before, but so has arguing and insults and, hey, that doesn't stop us doing them all over again - here's the task. Pick one (only one, no cheating, you can't have your cake and eat it here) song from Jim's catalogue that you would love to hear spruced up and rerecorded, and given a shiny new well-promoted release. Choose the style of the production (Bova, Rundgren, something totally off the wall) and, if you like, an artist to do it justice. I'll kick off - and this has been a difficult choice. I want to hear Ravishing blasting out of my speakers with a shiny new production and a thoroughly good arse-wiping. For me, it's one of Jim's great lost classics, and seemingly very under-rated by his fans. I blame the 80s production on Secret Dreams, which also spoils Rebel without A Clue and almost spoils Dirty Job, which is far too tinny and synth-based for modern ears. Bittan's grand piano would be well up in the mix and some real orchestration would be added in place of Bova's tweets and twits. On top of that, it needs to ROCK. The original just seems too poppy to me - and if you're gonna do it as pop song, then Jim should have begged Abba to record it, but that's a whole other thread... As for who would sing it - well, I really like Bonnie's vocals, so I'm not even sure they need to be touched. Just do away with the backing track and start over. If I'm forced to pick a new singer, then I'd have to go left field and change the sex (it would only need a couple of lyric tweaks if you really look closely) and give it to Brandon Flowers. Seriously - I think this sort of song is just written for his voice. And he's camp enough to like the idea too. I also don’t see many female singers around at the moment that could really do Jim justice, but then, that's a whole other thread too. Anyways, any takers? Bash my idea if you like, but say something - it's good for friction ;-)
