| So, I was browsing the internet, and I found out that apparently there are a few songs called "You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth" that predate Jim's. The first is written by Harry Pease (lyrics) and Ed G. Nelson (music), copyrighted January 1933, and all I could find about that version is its entry in the Catalog of Copyright Entries: Musical compositions and sheetmusic on eBay. The second is from the movie Folies Bergère de Paris, and is performed by Maurice Chevalier. I even found a recording. And then it went wrong. After finding out about those two, instead of doing something useful, like working on my website, I started looking for more. And it quickly became confusing—there's also a song called "You Took the Words Right Out of My Heart" which got covered a lot, and people apparently often write 'mouth' when they mean 'heart'—and a total timesuck. Anyway, here's some info about a few others I found: Mark Radice (who has an impressive discography) did one in '68. It's instrumental, and can be downloaded from here. First Choice did some funky stuff on their 1974 album The Player. Also in '74, but probably less funky, considering her other songs that can be found: Harriet Schock And finally, Blue Sky Riders added parentheses: You Took the Words (Right Outa my Mouth). That one was only released this year, though. (The reason I post this, is because a) I can, and b) hey! Jim wrote songs with titles that somebody else used already! omg!) | |
