IMO, if the "Batman" musical ever happens it won't be the Burton one. When Steinman and Ives worked on the piece it was based on the Burton franchise which had only existed (along with the Shoemaker ones :P) up to that point. Warner re-invented the franchise with the Nolan films. I doubt they'll turn back and produce a musical based on the old franchise. If Steinman and Ives were involved, the design and outlook of the characters would have to be different and the show would feel less mythic and "huge". In other words, it would be like the Nolan movie which everyone tells me is crap, not like the Burton ones (which, yes, have their flaws) which are CRYING OUT for musical treatment. Also, Gregg Maday (president of Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures) made a fool out of himself with "Lestat" (the Elton John-Bernie Taupin musical) which WB are trying to forget. Since then, there has been no mention of WB developing any musicals. So...... | |
