| Not a bad film, but a wasted opportunity. Eli got the impression that the creepiest part of the first one was the Rick Hoffman scene (and it was), and tried to make a movie out of that. But the guys in his place aren't nearly as interesting (theyre basically the affleck and damon characters from Dogma, oddly enough), nor do they REALLY focus on them. Most of the movie is our 3 female leads who follow the story of the 1st film almost to a T. also it should be noted that there's less violence and gore, if thats a concern for you. i really thought the 1st one was a great movie, it creeped me out in parts, almost grossed me out in others, and wasn't at all like i expected. this one i found myself calling every attempt at a 'twist' long before it occurred. there is one great sequence though that almost rivals the hoffman one from the first film - a montage across the globe of would be torturers bidding on a new kill. they are all doing regular things like playing golf, drinking their morning coffee (some are even with their families), etc. its twisted and sick and i loved it. but its the only time the movie really came close to the promises Eli has been making in his promotional stops. | |
