The artistic merit & substance of a show has nothing to do with whether one role was cast on TV (Sound of Music & Joseph got great reviews, as did the actors cast on TV). The shows mentioned were already 99% done with great supporting casts in place. Mikey Boy > was cast solely for Promotion... I agree, and for a time it worked; his casting did garner a lot of press and in turn, probably a lot of the preview ticket sales. DOTV failed not because of a promo casting 'stunt', but because Crawford had an ego and too much input (apart from fucking-up DOTV, had he ever written anything previously?). you aren't going to get> the best talent on a reality show... Hmmmm, not so sure. You 'aint gonna get 'known' talent, but some of the best are unknown (especially in the theatre world?), and in turn, their 'rate' is not so high. I also don't think these shows are as risky as they make out. I honestly believe Connie Fisher & Lee Mead were 'plants' (although 'I'd Do Anything' is not so clear cut). In addition, Lee & Connie recieved great reviews and would now be considered 'top West End talent'. To reduce the risk, Jim could always cast Peter & Hook (the usual way), and cast on TV for the Wendy role only? I can't stand the thought of Jim doing a bunch of stuff for promotion > instead of for quality. Well I don't think he will. I have faith that he will have a quality product first & foremost. I'm just posting about promo ideas (to come after the real hard work of writing is done). Hopefully we will get a great show AND great promo. | |
