Reading JD’s comments, it seems Jim & co haven’t made their minds up (yet), whether to do a stage musical or film first (which doesn’t bode well for anything in 2009...damn). Reading Jim’s blog descriptions (motorbikes, skateboards, flying wizards etc), I always felt it would be relatively very expensive & very difficult to stage (effectively) in a theatre. Also, with CGI, an ‘epic spectacular’ would be far more easily achieved on film? I love the ‘live intimacy’ of theatre, but wonder if the producers are favouring a movie. I also wonder if Jim’s 'current' vision of ‘Neverland’, could ever be achieved on stage? In regards to a movie, Beattie has committed to writing the screenplay; any thoughts on directors? Christopher Nolan – Loved what he did with ‘Batman Begins’. Peter Jackson – He can certainly do ‘epic spectacular’. Michael Bay – Most of his films are ‘bubblegum’, but they look great, and I don’t think anyone does ‘actions scenes’ better? Loved what he did with the Bat 2 videos as well. Ridley Scott – Love ‘Alien’, love ‘Black Hawk Down’, and love ‘Blade Runner’ (this is how I envisage ‘Neverland’). Terry Gilliam – Don’t know if Jim ever discussed the stage show with him, but I get the impression they live in similar worlds? | |
