ALW supposedly loves Jim's stuff and $20m > (if that is what Bat needs) is pocket change to the Lord. If Michael Cohl did "BOOH" it would be huge and fantastic. As you say, he has balls and he is not afraid to gamble his money. That is how he got the Stones (starting in 1989). He left Live Nation because they criticised him for spending too much on concert productions. I will try to find a recent article that is relevant and post the link. I have heard that Cohl is interested in Jim as a lyricist. The same as ALW. I always think of Jim as a great composer but just his lyrics are genius. Of course it would be cool if ALW shared some of his fortune but I'm not sure if he invests in productions that he is not producing. I will try to research that. Your suggestion is very interesting. The large theatres he owns are the most important things that ALW has. The same is true for Cameron Mackintosh. Large theatres that are free and available for new productions are very rare. I'm not sure but the show might be safer and better off playing arenas. As you know from Jim's blog (and I think you posted about this ages ago) they were planning to go into the Apollo Victoria but "Wicked" just runs and runs. At the time when Jim blogged, "Wicked" was not actually doing that well but since then they have managed to revamp it and it may well end up running for as long as "Phantom". | |
