Did Todd invent Jim's style ?

Controversial question I know, but listening to these old demos it just dawned on me that before "bat" Jim was a lot more country than his well known operatic style after. Even all the "Bat" songs are more country before Todd got his hands on them and after "bat" Jim was all bombastic rock and no country.
