| Klasien, I don't get your logic. 32 people were just shot to death and you type "Something tells me that the right to defend yourself was more important in the age of the pilgrims than it is now". With the current state of the world - one can argue that we can't rely on our goverment / police to protect us and the only way to prevent such tragedies is to protect ourselves. I don't necessarilly agree with this argument - but i can understand that argument. With guns the issue is always "intent". What does the applicant INTEND to dod with it? Hunting? recreation? self defense? shoot 32 students? No argument from me that is way to easy in USA to obtain firearms illegally - not sure what we can do about this - but someothing needs to be done. However, This kid was DEAD SET on killing people. He didn't do it with an automatic - he did it with a handgun. If this kid didn't have access to a gun - he could of easily built a fertilizer bomb, or something else causing more harm. If one is dead set on killing a group of people they will find a way to do so. Perhaps we should focus more on WHY people do this and address the causes - but perhaps thats too difficult for politicians. + we've seen instances where gun control does nothing to curb crime, only make it more difficult for honest citizens with no intent on killing people to obtain a gun. -Jusitn | |
